AIDS Action Europe was established in 2004 and has grown to be one of the largest HIV-related networks in the region. Our network reaches beyond the borders of the European Union and covers all 53 countries in Europe and Central Asia. Our mission is to unite civil society to work towards a more effective response to the HIV epidemic in Europe and Central Asia.
Members of our network comprise a diversity of about 450 NGOs, national networks, AIDS service organisations, activists and community based groups of people living with HIV.

AIDS Action Europe is governed by a Steering Committee of 12 members.
The committee comes together twice a year and has six-weekly conference calls. The members spend their time (around 10 days per year) and energy in AIDS Action Europe on a voluntary basis. The term for each steering committee member is 3 years, each steering committee member can me re-elected once. For institutional memory and ease of working, there will be a staggered turnover of 3-4 Steering Committee members yearly. There are fixed seats for a representative of STI AIDS Netherlands (as host organisation of AIDS Action Europe); the co-chair of the Civil Society Forum and a representative of EATG. The Steering Committee acts as the governing body of AIDS Action Europe on all programmatic issues concerning policy, strategy, finance, monitoring and evaluation.Click here to download a more detailed description of the principles, functions and governance of the steering committee.

As regional office of the International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO), AIDS Action Europe is part of ICASO's mission to mobilize and support diverse community organizations to build an effective global response to HIV and AIDS. This is done within a vision of a world where people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS can enjoy life free from stigma, discrimination, and persecution, and have access to prevention, treatment and care.
